5 Health Hacks We Can Learn From The Military

It is no secret, the men and women of our armed forces are some of the most fit people in the country. It is mandatory for them to be, because if they do not achieve a certain health standard, they would not be eligible to be in the military. In order for them to maintain their shape, they reserve a high standard of food and physical activity. We could all learn from their mental toughness and the workouts that they use. The following are five simple tips that we can all use in order to try and come close to the fitness levels of our brave enlisted citizens.

Military Workouts

A great way to start getting your body as fit as that of a person in the military is to do the workouts that our service men and women do. There is an immense number of military workouts that you can do. A little research would take you a long way in discovering the best one for you. One major workout that military personnel use are supersets. These are intense workouts that have no rests in between. For example, a superset workout for your upper body would include 10 push ups, 10 crunches, 10 wide push ups, 10 crunches, 10 tricep push ups, and then 10/10 left/right crunches. This is all back to back, and with no rests! When you are done with the circuit, you repeat it another 9 times with no rests.

Push Yourself

Much of being in the military has to do with mental toughness. When you feel like you can't go anymore and you want to give up, push yourself further than you think you can go. You'd be very surprised at how far your body can go. You can apply this toward anything, not just exercise. For example, if you are trying to maintain a healthy diet and feel like cheating, just keep mentally tough and remember that the ultimate goal is to treat your body the best you possibly can.

Nutrition

Nutrition is a huge part of staying healthy. You can exercise all you want, but if you are eating the most unhealthy food that you can find, then you will surely not see any results. In the military, every meal that you eat is perfectly balanced to coincide with the food pyramid. The right mix of grains, fruits, fats, dairy, fruits and vegetables goes into every meal. Remember, in the military you need to be alert and focused at all times, and their diet reflects this need.

Keep Motivated

If you've gotten the hang of pushing yourself to the limit, it's also important for you to know how to keep motivated. This is another mental aspect of the military that we could all learn from. Motivation to achieve something is key, because after the initial excitement of starting on a new exercise and diet regimen, motivation is the thing that will get you through the whole thing. Keep the final goal in mind, and reward yourself every time you hit milestones. This way, you will see your progress and want to keep going.

Having A Support System

In the military, it is all about teamwork. You depend on the people to your left, right, and behind you to do their jobs in order for you to have the best chance of surviving combat or any other situation. Having a support system and people you depend on when exercising or keeping a healthy diet can be very important to your success. When you find that you are feeling drained of energy and sluggish,those people will be there to push you and keep you on the right track, and vice versa.
