What is the South Beach Diet?
The South Beach Diet focuses on limiting the amount of carbs you eat. Carbs get stored to fat, so if you can eliminate or reduce carbs, you will lose weight. Before we break into the diet review, let’s go over exactly what a carbohydrate is and why it’s important.
In contrast to DASH, you have probably seen hundreds of commercials for Nutrisystem, I know I have.
Everyone from former football players to Janet Jackson is promoting the merits of Nutrisystem, so how does it stack up?
Nutrisystem gives you prepackaged meals for about $75 per week ($300/month), and each of the meals are composed of 55 percent carbs, 25 percent protein and 20 percent fat. The carbs tend to be whole grain/whole wheat and are low glycemic, meaning they are metabolized more slowly in your body and keep you full longer.
So if you're eating the meals, you're going to be able to eat less because you get the "full" feeling faster and with less food.
The meals themselves are pretty tempting.
Apple cinnamon oatmeal, french toast, garden veggie omelet
Chicken fajita melt, cheese tortellini, pasta with beef, ham soup
Macaroni and cheese, flatbread pizza, mushroom risotto, salisbury steak
So while the meal options above sound really appetizing, some people may not like eating all of their meals frozen. Some of the criticism from diet critics is this diet may be hard to maintain for an extended period of time.
Since you have to eat only the foods from Nutrisystem and aren't allowed to eat outside foods, it can get expensive and frustrate dieters when trying to dine out with friends and family.
Our suggestion is to use Nutrisystem as a way to get a leg up on your weight loss goal. Eat the meals for a month to get your initial weight loss, and then maintain that weight loss with a consistent workout plan and start integrating healthier meals into your existing routine.

The popular TV show has been able to transform contestants year after year, and now the same diet and workout routines that the contestants use are available to consumers.
The Biggest Loser Diet focuses on fruits and veggies, cutting out high fat meats. You eat filling meals where you get your calories from fruits, vegetables, lean protein sources and whole gains while also practicing portion control with a food journal.
Like the DASH diet, there are no prepackaged foods so if your main concern is convenience this diet may not be right for you.
For those of you who are looking for an affordable and healthy weight loss plan, the Biggest Loser diet book is only $22, and since you're preparing all of the meals you can make the meals as healthy as you desire.
